The tailgate
Tailgates down, the grill going, and the floodlights coming on.

Where you are
A stadium parking lot an hour before kick-off, at golden hour. The lane runs down an aisle between two rows of parked cars. Beside it a family’s pickup sits with its tailgate down under a canopy, the grill going and two fans in camp chairs. Ahead, the stadium’s concourse windows are lit and the floodlights are on.
What happens here
- The man at the grill flips the meat every few seconds and glances over at the lane.
- A cornhole gets both his arms up and two hops; a woody gets the tongs punched in the air.
